Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Filip Jorgensen is currently the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, replacing Robert Sánchez. This decision follows a series of costly errors by Sánchez, including a notable mistake in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Maresca explained that the change aims to provide Sánchez with time to recover mentally and physically. He emphasized that the intention is not to alternate goalkeepers game by game, stating, “Our keeper at this moment is Filip.”
Jorgensen, 22, was selected for the recent Premier League victory over West Ham, while Sánchez returned for the FA Cup loss to Brighton. Maresca clarified that despite Sánchez’s appearance in the FA Cup, Jorgensen remains the preferred choice for Premier League matches.
This move reflects Maresca’s strategy to stabilize the team’s performance as they aim to regain momentum in the Premier League. Chelsea is currently fourth in the league standings, striving to secure a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season.
