A federal judge in Texas has declared President Biden’s “Keeping Families Together” immigration program, which aimed to provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens, illegal.
The program was designed to help an estimated 500,000 immigrants by allowing them to apply for legal residency without leaving the country.
The ruling, issued by U.S. District Court Judge J. Campbell Barker, a Trump appointee, found that federal agencies lacked the authority to implement such a policy.
The decision aligns with a lawsuit filed by a coalition of Republican-led states, which argued that the policy would lead to significant public service costs for states like Texas.
