Judge Sets January 10 Sentencing Date for Trump’s Hush Money Case

Trump’s Hush Money Case: January 10 Sentencing by Judge’s Order

President-elect Donald Trump is scheduled for sentencing on January 10, 2025, following his conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over the trial, has indicated that he intends to issue an “unconditional discharge,” meaning Trump will not face jail time, fines, or probation. This decision comes just ten days before Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.

Trump’s legal team had sought to dismiss the case, citing his presidential election victory and a Supreme Court ruling granting immunity to former presidents for certain acts. However, Judge Merchan denied these motions, stating there were no legal reasons to delay sentencing.

The conviction stems from payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to conceal an alleged affair, with the funds being improperly recorded in business records.

Despite the conviction, Trump is expected to assume the presidency on January 20, 2025, becoming the first U.S. president to take office with a felony conviction.
