The Kano State Government has provided clarification regarding recent legal proceedings involving the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano. On January 10, 2025, the Court of Appeal upheld the repeal of the Kano Emirate Council Law of 2019, effectively reinstating Sanusi as the Emir.
However, on March 14, 2025, the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, issued a suspension of its earlier judgment, placing a temporary hold on the execution of Sanusi’s reinstatement pending a Supreme Court ruling.
Addressing the situation, Kano State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, emphasized that the recent appellate court decision does not nullify Sanusi’s reinstatement but merely suspends its implementation until the Supreme Court provides further direction.
