Justice for Victims: Kano Demands Parade of Lynching Suspects

​Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has called for the public parade of suspects involved in the recent lynching of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State, and has urged for compensation to be provided to the victims’ families. During a condolence visit from Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Kano Government House on Monday, March 31, 2025, Governor Yusuf emphasized the need for accountability and justice in light of the tragic incident.

The lynching occurred when the hunters, traveling in a truck, were intercepted by a vigilante group and accused of being kidnappers. This led to their brutal murder, with 16 individuals killed and 10 others managing to escape. Governor Yusuf described the attack as deeply disturbing and contradictory to the fundamental principles of Nigerian society, which values the sanctity of human life.

In response to the incident, 14 suspects have been arrested and transferred to Abuja for further investigation. Governor Yusuf has called for these suspects to be publicly paraded to bring relief to the victims’ families and to ensure transparency in the judicial process. He also highlighted the implementation of strong security measures to prevent any potential reprisal attacks.

Furthermore, Governor Yusuf has urged Governor Okpebholo to ensure that the families of the victims receive fair compensation for their loss. He commended President Bola Tinubu for his prompt response and commitment to justice by directing security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.

Governor Okpebholo condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric and unacceptable. He assured that robust security measures have been implemented to hold all those involved accountable and that investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to justice.
