On January 27, 2025, operatives from the Kano State Hisbah Board successfully intercepted a human trafficking operation at the Unguwa Uku luxury bus station in Kano. They rescued 16 underage girls who were being trafficked to Lagos, with plans to continue their journey to Benin Republic and ultimately to Ghana. The traffickers intended to procure fake passports for the victims in Ghana before dispersing them to various Arab countries.
The Deputy Commandant of Hisbah, Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, confirmed the operation, stating that the traffickers were apprehended at the motor park while attempting to transport the girls. He emphasized that the traffickers’ modus operandi involved exploiting the victims for forced labor and sexual exploitation across multiple countries.
The rescued girls have been placed under the care of the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs for rehabilitation and reintegration into society. The Hisbah authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the trafficking ring and are pursuing legal action against the perpetrators.
