The Kano State Police Command has successfully dismantled a female-led phone theft syndicate, arresting five individuals involved in the operation. The primary suspect, 19-year-old Shamsiyya Adamu, was apprehended on December 21, 2024, following numerous complaints from residents about mobile phone thefts in the Kano metropolis.
Adamu, a resident of Brigade Quarters in Kano, orchestrated the thefts with the assistance of accomplices:
The syndicate targeted residential areas, particularly housewives, deceiving them to steal mobile phones and subsequently withdrawing funds from their bank accounts. A total of 30 complaints were lodged against Adamu, with 29 female victims and one male victim. Six stolen mobile phones have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to trace additional stolen items.
The Kano State Police Command has urged other victims to come forward and report their cases by contacting the investigation team at 08032617800. The police have commended the intervention squad for their swift action and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
