Lagos State Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab and NAFDAC have publicly clashed over a viral video showing individuals destroying bags of sachet water in Lagos.
Wahab initially claimed these individuals were NAFDAC enforcement officers conducting operations against non-compliant products.
However, NAFDAC denied the allegations, stating that such actions are inconsistent with its operational methods and standards.
The incident has stirred public confusion, especially amidst Lagos State’s upcoming ban on single-use plastics starting in January 2025. While this ban excludes sachet water, the video fueled speculation about regulatory enforcement.
Both Wahab and NAFDAC clarified that the government is focused on promoting sustainable waste management without targeting essential products like sachet water.
