Lagos Implements Stricter Laws Against Events on Public Roads

Facing Legal Action: Events Blocking Public Roads in Lagos

The Lagos State government has announced its intention to prosecute residents who block streets for parties and social events.

This decision comes in response to growing concerns about the disruptions caused by such gatherings, including noise pollution and traffic gridlock.

CSP Shola Jejeloye, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, condemned the behavior as selfish and inconsiderate, emphasizing that those caught blocking roads will face immediate arrest and charges in a mobile court.

Jejeloye noted that this practice has been particularly prevalent in areas like Lagos Island, Oworonshoki, and Agege, and he urged residents to seek proper approvals before organizing any social events that might impede traffic.

He called for public cooperation in reporting instances of street blockages to maintain order in the city.
