Independence Marina-CMS Bridge Closure: Lagos Announcement

​The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion to facilitate emergency repairs on the Independence/Mekwen Bridge, affecting the inbound Marina/CMS route. This diversion is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and is expected to last until Monday, May 26, 2025.

Scope of Closure:

• The section of the road from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge down to Independence Bridge will be closed to vehicular movement.​
• The service lane at Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge inbound Independence Bridge will also be inaccessible. However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will remain open to traffic.​

Alternative Routes:

To mitigate traffic disruptions, motorists are advised to utilize the following alternative routes:

• From Ahmadu Bello Way to Victoria Island:
  • Proceed via Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, continue to Falomo Roundabout, then link Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road and continue to your destination.
• From Ahmadu Bello Way to Third Mainland Bridge:
  • Use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, then link Alfred Rewane Road to Osborne Road, and connect to Ring Road to reach your destination. ​
• From Ahmadu Bello Way to Inner Marina/CMS:
  • Divert to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street to connect Falomo Roundabout, then link Obafemi Awolowo Road to access J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road to reach your desired destination. ​
• From Inner Marina/CMS to Ahmadu Bello Way:
  • Motorists heading to Ahmadu Bello Way from Inner Marina/CMS will have through-traffic access.

Traffic Management:

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be actively managing traffic flow along these alternative routes throughout the duration of the repair works. Motorists are urged to exercise patience and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

This repair initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Federal Ministry of Works to rehabilitate critical infrastructure within Lagos State. Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and consider the suggested alternative routes to minimize inconvenience during this period.
