Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has expressed concern over the lack of financial contributions from the party’s elected lawmakers since the 2023 elections.
Speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State chapter of the party, Abure highlighted that, despite having six senators, approximately 30 House of Representatives members, and numerous state assembly members, none have contributed financially to the party’s operations.
Abure emphasized that in other political parties, elected officials typically fund party activities, and he questioned the fairness of lawmakers seeking control over their constituencies without supporting the party financially.
Additionally, Abure addressed the creation of parallel structures within the party, warning that such actions could lead to severe consequences. He urged members of the ‘Obidient’ movement to officially register with the Labour Party to participate in upcoming congresses scheduled for June and July 2025.
