In Lagos, a man has been arrested for allegedly defrauding women by assuming a false identity. The suspect was apprehended following accusations from a victim named Fafore, who claimed that he is a serial abuser specializing in deceiving women through fake identities.
The arrest was made by the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA), and the suspect was found with various items, including a car, which were allegedly acquired through his fraudulent activities.
This incident highlights a broader issue of romance scams in Nigeria, where individuals exploit unsuspecting victims, often through online platforms. For instance, in December 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested 792 suspects involved in crypto-romance scams targeting mainly American and European victims.
The scammers used social media and messaging platforms to lure victims with romantic offers or fake investment opportunities, convincing them to transfer money for non-existent projects.
