Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has officially updated his name to Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu across all club platforms, including the official website, team sheets, and squad lists. This change was made at the request of his family to honor their Nigerian heritage and religious beliefs. The name “Chinazaekpere” translates to “God answers prayers” in Igbo.
Dorgu, a 20-year-old Danish international, joined Manchester United from Italian club Lecce during the winter transfer window for £29 million. Before joining United, he played for Lecce in Serie A, where he gained first-team experience.
This name change reflects a broader trend among players embracing their cultural identities. Recently, Manchester United’s 17-year-old talent Chido Obi dropped ‘Martin’ from his name, aligning with his heritage.
By adopting his full name, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu pays tribute to his family’s roots and integrates his cultural identity into his professional career.
