Marc Guehi, the captain of Crystal Palace, recently broke his silence after facing criticism and reprimand from the Football Association (FA) for inscribing religious messages, “I Love Jesus” and “God Is Love,” on his LGBTQ-themed rainbow armband during the Premier League’s Rainbow Laces campaign.
The campaign promotes inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community within football.
Guehi explained that his inscriptions were an expression of his deep Christian faith and not intended to diminish the message of inclusivity that the armband represents.
However, the FA warned him that personal messages on campaign items could be seen as distracting from the campaign’s goals.
Despite the reprimand, Guehi emphasized his respect for all communities while maintaining his commitment to living by his religious values.
