Mob Justice: The Unfortunate Death of a Newlywed NDLEA Official in Kaduna

Kaduna Mob Violence: Insight into the Killing of a Newlywed NDLEA Member

On Friday, February 14, 2025, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics 1, Aliyu Imran, an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), was tragically killed by a mob in Gadan-Gayan, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident occurred during a high-speed pursuit of a suspected drug dealer.

According to reports, NDLEA operatives were chasing a suspect who, in an attempt to evade arrest, reversed his vehicle at high speed, resulting in a collision that killed at least three bystanders on the spot. The exact number of fatalities varies, with some sources reporting up to four deaths.

In the aftermath of the accident, tensions escalated among local residents. Officer Imran reportedly attempted to calm the situation but was attacked by the enraged mob. He sustained stab wounds, and although a police officer transported him to a nearby hospital, the mob later stormed the facility, dragged him out, and set him ablaze.

Contrary to earlier reports suggesting neglect by the NDLEA, the family of the late officer has dismissed such allegations. Hassan Idris-Funtua, the head of the family, stated that the NDLEA has been supportive and proactive, with the Chairman/CEO, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retired), personally reaching out to offer condolences. Representatives from both the Kaduna State Command and the agency’s national headquarters have visited the family to express their sympathies.
