NAFDAC Seizes 120 Fake Rice Bags in Rivers

Rivers: NAFDAC Discovers 120 Counterfeit Rice Bags

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated over 120 bags of counterfeit rice from more than ten shops in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The operation targeted markets in Woji, Mile 3, and Mile 1, focusing on vendors selling fake Big Bull rice.

In a shop located in the YKC area of Woji, officials discovered large quantities of empty counterfeit bags for various rice brands, including Big Bull, Cap Rice, Stallion Rice, Tomato Rice, and Mama Pride. The shop also contained equipment such as sewing and sealing machines, a generator, and bags of already rebagged rice. A salesgirl, identified as Ogechi Okafor, was apprehended during the raid.

NAFDAC’s Rivers State Coordinator, Emmanuel Onogwu, advised the public to be vigilant when purchasing rice, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing genuine products from counterfeits. He highlighted features of authentic Big Bull rice, such as a shiny ribbon across the threaded top, high-quality packaging, and the official logo.
