Unveiling December 13: NCC’s Fresh Tariff Plans for Better Connectivity

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to simplify and restructure telecom tariff plans, with new guidelines set to take effect by December 31, 2024.

This directive requires telecom operators like MTN, Airtel, Glo, and others to present their tariff plans and promotional offers in a transparent, user-friendly manner.

Key points include:

1. Simplified Tariff Plans: Operators must consolidate and simplify their offerings into clear categories with comprehensive information on pricing, validity, and terms of use.
2. Transparency: Subscribers will receive detailed information about all active tariffs, including any changes or promotions, with mandatory advance notifications of at least 30 days.
3. Limitations on Offers: The number of tariff plans is restricted to seven per operator, while bundles are capped at 100 options. Existing bonus-led plans can remain until the end of 2024, with subscribers gradually migrated to the new structure.
4. Fair Pricing: Add-ons and bonuses must comply with NCC’s price regulations, and operators are required to meet specific quality of service (QoS) standards.
