The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has imposed fines totaling ₦628,031,583.94 on eight Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) for failing to adhere to the capping of estimated bills for unmetered customers between July and September 2024.
The affected DisCos are:
NERC’s review revealed that these DisCos did not comply with the monthly energy caps designed to align estimated bills for unmetered customers with the actual consumption of metered customers on the same feeder.
The fines represent 5% of the gross overbilling during the specified period. Additionally, NERC has mandated the affected DisCos to provide credit adjustments to all overbilled customers by May 15, 2025, coinciding with the end of the April billing cycle.
