The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Éric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team. Chelle, a former professional footballer and experienced coach, takes over the role with immediate effect.
Coaching Career:
Before his appointment with the Super Eagles, Chelle managed the Mali national team from May 2022 until June 2024. His tenure with Mali included participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the team reached the quarterfinals.
Playing Career:
As a player, Chelle was a central defender who spent his entire professional career in France. He played for clubs such as Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais. Internationally, he earned five caps for the Mali national team.
Immediate Objectives:
Chelle’s primary objective is to lead the Super Eagles to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His appointment aims to bring stability and success to the team as they prepare for upcoming qualifiers.
