Niger Delta Operation: Army Dismantles 21 Illegal Refineries and Arrests 11 Suspects

Army Seizes 190,000 Litres of Stolen Product in Major Niger Delta Crackdown

The Nigerian Army has intensified its efforts against illegal oil refining in the Niger Delta region. Between December 30, 2024, and January 5, 2025, troops dismantled 21 illegal refining sites, arrested 11 suspects, and confiscated approximately 190,000 liters of stolen petroleum products.

    • Yenagoa Local Government Area (LGA) in Bayelsa State.
    • Southern Ijaw LGA in Bayelsa State.
    • Omoku area in Rivers State.
    • Mgbede area in Rivers State.
    • Ivade area in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State.
    • Ibaka beach in Akwa Ibom State.

These operations are part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to combat oil theft and pipeline sabotage, which have significantly impacted the nation’s oil production and exports.

The General Officer Commanding the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops for their resilience and urged them to continue creating an enabling environment for socio-economic activities in the region.
