Nigerian Government Dismisses Togo and Benin Republic Degree Holders from MDAs

Impact of Nigerian Government’s Decision on Togo, Benin Degree Holders in MDAs

The Nigerian government has dismissed several civil servants holding degrees from private universities in Togo and Benin Republic.

This move is part of a crackdown on fraudulent academic qualifications and degree mills.

The affected individuals graduated from non-accredited institutions in these countries, with investigations revealing widespread racketeering and fraudulent practices in obtaining such certificates.

An inter-ministerial committee, established by the federal government, recommended these dismissals as part of ongoing reforms to maintain integrity in the Nigerian civil service.

It was reported that some individuals had acquired these degrees without ever leaving Nigeria, leveraging illegal networks involving local and foreign collaborators.

To clarify, the government has also identified eight officially accredited universities in Togo and Benin Republic where degrees are recognized, emphasizing that only graduates from these institutions are considered eligible for employment in the civil service.
