Nigerian Man and South African Girlfriend Arrested in N3.3m Drug Sting

Undercover Operation Leads to Nigerian and South African Duo’s Arrest for N3.3m Drug Sale

A 48-year-old Nigerian man and his 33-year-old South African girlfriend were arrested in Lichtenburg, North West, South Africa, for allegedly selling drugs to undercover police officers.

The arrests followed an undercover operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, the North West Provincial Drug Task Team, and the Lichtenburg K9 unit.

The suspects were apprehended after selling drugs valued at R40,000 (approximately ₦3.3 million) to officers posing as buyers.

Seized during the operation were 649 mandrax tablets, 40 packets of crystal meth, and transparent plastic bags containing CAT.

A subsequent search of the Nigerian man’s residence uncovered additional crystal meth worth an estimated R15,000 and CAT valued at R6,000.

While processing the suspects, a 28-year-old South African woman, alleged to be the Nigerian man’s girlfriend, attempted to bribe the police to secure his release.

She was subsequently arrested and charged with corruption.

The trio is scheduled to appear before the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges related to drug possession, dealing, and corruption.
