A Nigerian man has been arrested in Benalmádena Pueblo, Spain, for allegedly killing his Spanish wife and setting their family home on fire. The tragic incident occurred on February 9, 2025. The victim, a 48-year-old Spanish woman named Catalina, was found dead inside the house with clear signs of violence after the fire was extinguished. Authorities suspect that the husband, identified as Augustine, deliberately set the house ablaze after the attack.
Catalina had previously reported Augustine to the police for threatening behavior and physical abuse. Despite her report, no restraining order was granted, as the court deemed there was insufficient evidence of a severe threat at the time. The couple had three children together, all of whom were rescued from the burning house by emergency responders.
This case has sparked outrage and discussions about the adequacy of protective measures for victims of domestic violence in Spain.
