On March 18, 2025, the Upington Division of the High Court in South Africa sentenced 38-year-old Nigerian national, Chidi Emmanuel Okafor, to life imprisonment for the murder of a police officer in Keimoes, Northern Cape.
The incident occurred in 2023 when Okafor fatally shot the officer during a routine patrol. Following the shooting, Okafor fled the scene but was apprehended days later in a neighboring province. The prosecution presented compelling evidence during the trial, leading to his conviction.
