The Nigerian military has issued a stern challenge to former militant leader Asari Dokubo, following his claims in a viral video that he could shoot down military helicopters that were allegedly hovering over his residence.
Dokubo made these bold statements in early October, describing the presence of the helicopters as a provocation by the government and warning that he had the capability to retaliate.
In response, Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, dismissed Dokubo’s claims as “laughable” and invited him to test his assertions on the battlefield.
Buba emphasized that while the military operates professionally and within the bounds of democracy, they are prepared to neutralize Dokubo if he decides to challenge them directly.
The military’s focus remains on combating terrorists, and they have been making significant strides in reducing the threat posed by insurgents across the country.
This back-and-forth has sparked attention, particularly because Dokubo’s claims came after he expressed dissatisfaction with helicopter surveillance over his home.
