Nigerian National Sentenced for $143K Mail Fraud in US

6-Year Prison Sentence for Nigerian Mail Fraud Scheme

Uwa Nosakhare, a 26-year-old Nigerian national, has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme involving the impersonation of property owners and the unauthorized sale of vacant lot properties in Palm Beach County, Florida. This sentencing follows his guilty plea in January to charges of mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Between April 2022 and April 2023, Nosakhare and his accomplices targeted multiple properties, creating counterfeit documents such as driver’s licenses and notary credentials using stolen personal identifiable information (PII) of legitimate property owners. These falsified documents were utilized to execute unauthorized property sales, directing proceeds into bank accounts controlled by the conspirators.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), in collaboration with the Boca Raton Police Department and federal agencies, conducted an extensive investigation into these fraudulent activities. A significant breakthrough occurred when physical closing documents revealed fingerprints linking Nosakhare to the crimes. Surveillance footage further captured him at various FedEx locations dispatching fraudulent documents.

In October 2024, Nosakhare was apprehended by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) while attempting to flee to Canada. On March 27, 2025, he was sentenced to six years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay restitution. Upon completion of his sentence, Nosakhare will face deportation from the United States.
