A Nigerian professor, Monday Lewis Igbafen, who serves as the Zonal Coordinator for the Benin Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has successfully escaped from his abductors.
He was kidnapped around 10 PM on September 28, 2024, outside his residence in Ekpoma, Edo State.
The armed men took him to a forest after hijacking his vehicle. However, he managed to flee late on the following day, possibly due to the pressure from police operations in the area aimed at locating the kidnappers.
The police confirmed the escape and are currently pursuing the suspects involved in the kidnapping. This incident underscores the ongoing issue of abduction for ransom in Nigeria, which has become a significant concern in various regions
