Nigeria’s Economic Crisis: A Call for Change

Voices of Anguish: Governor Fintiri on Nigeria’s Struggles

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s current economic situation, criticizing the Federal Government’s policies for exacerbating hardship among citizens. Speaking at the Northeast Zonal meeting of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee in Bauchi, Fintiri stated, “Nigeria is bleeding. We are suffering. There is too much anger, and the FG’s economic policy is not working.”

He urged the Federal Government to reconsider its economic strategies, emphasizing that policies causing distress should be avoided. Fintiri remarked, “Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community.”

These comments come amid significant economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including the removal of fuel subsidies and currency devaluation. While intended to stabilize the economy and attract investment, these measures have led to increased fuel prices and inflation, intensifying the financial strain on Nigerians.
