The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is set to launch a contactless passport application solution in Europe on Friday, February 7, 2025, with the United Kingdom serving as the coordinating center. This initiative will enable Nigerians in the diaspora to apply for and renew their passports online from the comfort of their homes.
Comptroller General of the NIS, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, announced the development during a courtesy visit to the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at NiDCOM headquarters in Abuja. She emphasized that the contactless passport application solution is a significant step towards efficient, secure, and convenient travel document management for Nigerians abroad.
This move aligns with the NIS’s ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery to Nigerians worldwide. The service had previously rolled out a similar contactless passport application system in Canada in November 2024, which received positive feedback from Nigerians there. Plans are also underway to extend this service to Nigerians in the United States, Italy, and France.
The launch of the contactless passport application solution in Europe is expected to streamline the passport renewal process, reduce processing times, and eliminate the need for physical visits to Nigerian embassies or consulates.
