Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed concern that adversaries of the Igbo community are exploiting his ongoing detention to launch coordinated attacks in Nigeria’s Southeast region. During a recent visit by his legal team, Kanu lamented that his illegal detention has emboldened these enemies to target defenseless villagers. He emphasized that, had he been free, such audacious attacks against peaceful farming communities would not have occurred.
This statement comes in the wake of a violent incident in the Amegu Nkalaha community of Ishielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, where suspected herdsmen attacked residents, leading to fatalities and property destruction. Kanu’s legal representative, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, highlighted that enemies of the Southeast are taking advantage of Kanu’s detention to perpetrate such acts.
Kanu’s detention has been a focal point of tension in the region, with many attributing the rise in attacks to the perceived leadership vacuum and the emboldenment of hostile elements. Supporters argue that his release could restore a sense of security and deter further aggression against Igbo communities.
