The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited to either sell petrol to them at the same rate it is purchasing from the Dangote Refinery or refund their outstanding payments.
IPMAN’s president, Abubakar Shettima, stated that NNPC is charging independent marketers higher prices for petrol, ranging from ₦1,010 to ₦1,050 per litre, while it buys from Dangote Refinery at a lower rate of less than ₦900 per litre.
This price discrepancy has caused tension, with IPMAN requesting either fair pricing or the ability to directly source fuel from Dangote Refinery.
NNPC had previously absorbed a subsidy of ₦133 per litre, selling petrol at a lower price to marketers.
However, with the recent full deregulation of the downstream market, marketers can now purchase directly from Dangote Refinery under a “willing buyer, willing seller” arrangement.
