Obasa Re-elected as Lagos Speaker Following Meranda's Exit

Lagos Assembly: Obasa’s Re-election After Meranda Resigns

Mudashiru Obasa has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda, who stepped down from the role on March 3, 2025.

Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency I, announced her resignation during a plenary session, after which lawmakers promptly re-elected her as the Assembly’s Deputy Speaker. Her leadership during her tenure as Speaker was commended by her colleagues, who also praised her adherence to the All Progressives Congress (APC) party’s directives.

Obasa, representing Agege Constituency I, was first elected into the House in 2007 and served as Speaker from June 2015 until his removal in January 2025. His re-election followed a nomination by Noheem Adams, the former Majority Leader representing Eti-Osa Constituency I, during the plenary session.

This leadership change comes amid a seven-week leadership tussle within the Assembly, with Obasa’s reinstatement restoring the House’s previous leadership structure.
