On March 25, 2025, during a Senate committee hearing addressing sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili was involved in a heated exchange with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi.
Ezekwesili recounted that during the hearing, senators dismissed her and other supporters of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, implying they were unserious. When Senator Nwebonyi began to speak, Ezekwesili interjected, telling him to “shut up,” which led to a verbal altercation between the two.
Senator Nwebonyi later expressed regret for his choice of words during the exchange but maintained that his reaction was provoked.
