Ogun Student Killed as Rainstorm Destroys School

Tragic Rainstorm: Ogun Student Dies, School Damaged

​On March 19, 2025, a severe rainstorm struck Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Ilase, Ogun State, resulting in the tragic death of 14-year-old Junior Secondary School 3 student, Timothy Amosun. The storm caused significant structural damage to the school’s classrooms.

In addition to the fatality, five other students, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old child sustained injuries during the incident. The injured individuals have been hospitalized and are receiving medical attention.

Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a “rude shock” and a “painful tragedy” for the affected families and the community. He assured that the state government would cover all medical expenses for the injured and has directed that those in critical condition be transferred to specialist hospitals for comprehensive care.

Furthermore, Governor Abiodun has instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the victims’ families and assess the damage to the school facilities to facilitate prompt reconstruction efforts.
