The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has expressed strong disapproval of the House of Representatives’ proposal to create five additional states in Nigeria’s South-East region.
The OYC contends that this plan perpetuates the marginalization of the South-East, which currently has only five states, compared to six or seven in other regions. They argue that the proposal fails to address this disparity and instead exacerbates it.
Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of the OYC, emphasized that any genuine effort to promote national unity should begin by granting the South-East two additional states to bring it on par with other regions.
He criticized the South-East representatives in the House for allowing a proposal that he believes is skewed against their region. Okwu urged these lawmakers to revisit and correct the perceived imbalance to foster unity in the country.
