In Ifon, the headquarters of Ose Local Government Area in Ondo State, Nigeria, irate youths set the local police station ablaze following the alleged death of a young man in police custody. The incident reportedly began with a dispute between two families on February 15, 2025, which escalated into a public altercation. Police officers intervened, arresting two individuals.
Tragically, one of the arrested individuals allegedly died due to police torture, while the other was hospitalized in a coma. In response, outraged youths stormed the police station, chased away the officers on duty, including the Divisional Police Officer, and set the building on fire. The administrative office, Divisional Police Officer’s office, station store, and two exhibit vehicles were affected by the inferno.
Ondo State Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi condemned the attack and has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident and to bring those responsible to justice.
