A violent clash between rival groups known as Sara-Suka in the Yantifa community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulted in one death and three injuries on Tuesday evening.
Residents reported that members of these groups, armed with machetes and other weapons, engaged in a confrontation that caused panic and forced locals to flee for safety.
Local vigilante member Lawan Chizo confirmed the incident, noting that security forces, including soldiers, were deployed to restore order. He mentioned that while fear persists among residents, normalcy has been restored.
This altercation follows a similar clash two days prior, during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, where five individuals were killed near the Al-Mohap praying ground.
In response to these events, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police has called for an emergency meeting with community leaders to address the ongoing violence associated with the Sara-Suka groups.
The Sara-Suka groups, notorious for their violent activities, have been a source of concern for residents and authorities in Jos. Efforts are underway to curb their influence and prevent further clashes in the region.
