The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, recently unveiled a golden statue of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, at a ceremony held at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
This event, which honored her contributions to education, women’s empowerment, and national unity, also included the naming of a 2.7 km road and a grand pavilion after the First Lady.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Tinubu pledged a donation of ₦1 billion for the university’s landscaping projects.
Reactions to the statue on social media have been mixed, with some praising the gesture as a tribute to her positive influence, while others criticized it as a misplaced priority amid ongoing national issues.
