A tragic incident occurred at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi, where 39-year-old patient Gilbert Kinyua was found dead in his bed with his throat slit. Kinyua had been admitted to Ward 7B since December 11, 2024, due to a cerebral disorder. His lifeless body was discovered on the morning of February 7, 2025.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Kinyua may have been killed by a fellow patient, as bloodstains were found on a co-patient’s slippers, and a bloodstained knife was recovered at the scene.
KNH’s acting CEO, Dr. William Sigilai, confirmed the incident and stated that the hospital is collaborating with law enforcement authorities to determine the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death.
This incident has raised concerns about patient safety and security within hospital wards. KNH has launched an internal investigation to address these concerns and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
