In a coordinated operation on April 3, 2025, Nigerian police and military forces successfully rescued Israeli national Gil Itamar, an employee of the construction company SCC, who had been abducted earlier that day in Atim Community along the Takum–Chanchanji road in Taraba State.
The rescue mission involved a joint effort by the police, military personnel, and local hunters. After receiving intelligence about the kidnapping, security forces engaged the assailants in a gun battle at Kofai Ahmadu, leading to the release of Itamar.
The kidnappers fled the scene, leaving behind several abandoned vehicles. Two victims, Yakubu Usman and Godwin Peter, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Acting Public Relations Officer of the Taraba State Police Command, ASP James Saminu, confirmed the operation and stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bretet Emmanuel Simon, commended the security personnel for their bravery and reaffirmed the commitment to ensuring the safety of residents in the state.
