As of January 15, 2025, Nigerian singer and social media personality Speed Darlington has been granted bail following his arrest on November 27, 2024. His lawyer, Stanley Alieke, confirmed the bail on December 23, 2024, stating that Speed Darlington had been released after nearly a month in police custody.
The arrest was connected to allegations of defamation and cyberstalking against fellow musician Burna Boy. Speed Darlington had made a video taunting Burna Boy over his affiliation with the embattled U.S. rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is facing multiple charges for sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
In response to the arrest, Speed Darlington filed a N300 million lawsuit against the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for unlawful detention. The Federal High Court in Abuja had previously ordered the police to arraign or release him within 48 hours, leading to his eventual release on bail.
As of now, Speed Darlington has been released on bail, and his legal team is working to perfect his bail conditions.
