Police Arrest Suspect in Ondo Businessman’s Murder Case

Ondo Police Capture Suspect Linked to Businessman’s Murder

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a prime suspect, identified as Afolabi Ijalo, in connection with the murder of prominent businessman Alhaji Awoyinka Sumaila in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.

Sumaila, a well-known dealer in building materials, was shot dead at his residence opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area on the evening of March 1, 2025, shortly after returning from Ramadan prayers at the mosque .​

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, Ijalo was apprehended on April 10, 2025, following a discreet investigation. During a search of his residence, officers recovered a locally made pistol believed to have been used in the murder, along with various charms .​

Commissioner of Police Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi commended the officers for their diligence and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing to ensure the safety of residents. He assured the public that no stone would be left unturned in bringing all perpetrators to justice .​
