The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed reports alleging that hackers infiltrated the Enugu State Government’s account, resulting in the theft of N1.9 billion.
According to Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, these claims are entirely baseless.
Adejobi clarified that the incident in question involved procurement fraud, not a cyber breach. The suspect has been apprehended, and the misappropriated funds have been recovered and returned to the Enugu State Government.
The investigation was conducted by the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC).
The police emphasized that there was no hacking of the Enugu State Government’s account and urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation.
They also encouraged citizens to verify the credibility of news sources before sharing information.
