A tragic incident occurred on March 12, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State, when a two-year-old girl was killed after a Vannette bus, attempting to evade arrest by the Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSR), veered off the Ring Road and struck pedestrians. The child’s mother sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Following the accident, an enraged mob targeted a PSR officer, blaming him for the incident. The situation escalated until police from the Esigie Divisional Headquarters intervened, rescuing the officer and initiating an investigation into the events leading up to the crash.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, has urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, cooperate with law enforcement, and exercise patience on the roads to prevent such tragedies.
