The Oyo State Police Command has released six individuals previously detained in connection with the tragic stampede at a children’s carnival in Ibadan on December 18, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of 35 minors.

These individuals were released from police custody at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Monday night.
However, two key figures remain in custody and have been arraigned in court:
Both have been remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings.
The stampede occurred during a children’s Christmas party organized by WINGS Foundation and media partners Agidigbo FM at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The event, intended to bring joy to children, ended in tragedy with 35 minors confirmed dead and several others critically injured.
The case has been adjourned until January 13, 2025, for further mention.
This incident has raised concerns about the organization and safety measures at large public events, especially those involving children. Authorities emphasize the need for adequate security and medical facilities to prevent such tragedies in the future.
