Pope Francis has condemned President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for mass deportations of immigrants, describing them as a “disgrace.” In an interview on Italian television, the Pope stated that such actions unfairly burden impoverished individuals and fail to address underlying issues.
He emphasized that making “poor wretches who have nothing pay the bill” is not a solution.
Despite his criticism, Pope Francis extended congratulations to Trump on his inauguration, expressing prayers for “wisdom, strength, and protection” in his leadership.
He encouraged the new administration to foster a just society free from hatred and discrimination.
This is not the first time Pope Francis has criticized Trump’s immigration policies. During the 2016 presidential campaign, he remarked that building walls instead of bridges is “not Christian.”
