The Presidency has responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent critique, suggesting that Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office without a concrete plan.
The Presidency, through Temitope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, highlighted that Tinubu is boldly implementing economic reforms that Obasanjo had started but failed to complete, such as the deregulation of the downstream oil sector.
Ajayi pointed out that Obasanjo’s inability to fully deregulate the oil industry during his administration left critical reforms incomplete, burdening subsequent governments.
In contrast, Tinubu was commended for taking decisive actions on these reforms despite potential backlash, positioning them as necessary for Nigeria’s long-term economic health.
Criticism was also directed at Obasanjo for portraying himself as Nigeria’s sole savior, overshadowing the achievements of other leaders.
A Yoruba socio-political group echoed this sentiment, accusing Obasanjo of harboring bitterness and envy toward Tinubu’s achievements.
