President Tinubu Mourns Ibadan Funfair Tragedy Victims and Launches Investigation

Tinubu Orders Probe After Heartfelt Response to Ibadan Funfair Tragedy

President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident at a children’s funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, which resulted in the deaths of 35 minors and left six others critically injured.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Oyo State.

He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to determine whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to the tragedy, ensuring transparency and accountability.

The President urged the Oyo State Government to implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future, including a comprehensive review of safety protocols at public events, strict enforcement of safety regulations, and regular safety audits of event venues.

He also called on event organizers to prioritize the safety of attendees, especially children, by integrating professional security, protocol, and logistics into their planning.

The stampede occurred on December 18, 2024, at the Islamic High School in Basorun, Ibadan, during a holiday funfair organized for families and children.

The event, which attracted a large crowd, turned tragic when a stampede led to the loss of young lives.

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.

President Tinubu’s directive underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens and holding accountable those responsible for such tragedies.
