Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri have recently engaged in a public exchange of criticisms.
The dispute began when Omokri accused El-Rufai of expressing frustration over not being appointed as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Omokri suggested that El-Rufai’s opposition to federal funding for a Lagos rail project was a manifestation of this frustration.
In response, El-Rufai labeled Omokri a “political mercenary” willing to serve any paying individual or government.
He referenced past allegations against Omokri, including an incident involving identity theft where Omokri was accused of using the pseudonym “Wendell Simlin” to link former Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi to Boko Haram.
Omokri countered by dismissing El-Rufai’s claims of ethnic favoritism in President Tinubu’s government as unfounded. He argued that if the current administration’s policies are yielding positive results, the ethnic composition of the cabinet should not be a concern.
This exchange has attracted significant attention, with various political figures and commentators weighing in on the implications of their statements.
