Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been handed a ban following an investigation into a racial slur directed at his teammate Son Heung-min.
The incident reportedly occurred during an interview on Uruguayan TV, where Bentancur made an offensive comment about South Koreans.
Son, who is of South Korean descent, accepted Bentancur’s heartfelt apology, stating they had resolved the issue personally and as teammates.
The ban, confirmed by the FA, reflects an “aggravated breach” of their anti-discrimination rules.
Tottenham has supported Son and announced plans to enhance player education on diversity and inclusion.
Bentancur will reportedly face a lengthy seven-game suspension, a significant setback for the team.
